WebCrash FAQ and Troubleshooting

When attempting to login to WebCrash, an error message tells me my password has expired. What have I done?

I have just attempted to produce another report, why has the system has asked me to login again?

Data Problems

I need to access very recent data but the figures aren?t being displayed. What am I doing wrong?

I have produced reports for crashes, casualties, units and circumstances for the same area and constraints, why are the totals different?

I have selected the severity of the crash along with the count of people killed/injured and the result seems quite excessive. What have I done?

I am having some major problems getting the mapping system working in WebCrash. What is causing this?

I have just created a report for the Christmas report period and the figures are definitely incorrect. Have I found a data error?

Reports

The last report I just produced is not showing up when I click on the Download PDF File button. My first report still being shown, why?

I found an old report I produced awhile ago, can I recreate it?

I get an error that says, ?You do not have permission for geographic constraint ?All of Queensland? for creating Crash Details Report?. I can not find a problem with anything I have done.

I want to list my data by each separate police region, do I have to choose them all in the geographic constraint?

Other

I have a few ideas that I think would prove beneficial for me and other users of the software, where can I provide feedback?

My problem has not be solved by the online help or the FAQ, who do I contact for help?

When attempting to login to WebCrash, an error message tells me my password has expired. What have I done?

Your organisation has either decided to discontinue use of the software or have yet to agree to extending their access. You will need to contact the appropriate staff person in your area to organise further access.

I have just attempted to produce another report, why has the system has asked me to login again?

The system has detected a period of inactivity for 15 minutes and has disconnected you for security purposes. It is a simple matter of logging back in as normal.

Data Problems

I need to access very recent data but the figures aren?t being displayed. What am I doing wrong?

Currently the data is being kept at 3 months behind the current month to ensure that any comparisons made to previous years is kept accurate. For example, if the current month is May then the most recent data you will be able to obtain in WebCrash will be from January. You will need to contact the Data Analysis Unit if you require very recent data.

I have produced reports for crashes, casualties, units and circumstances for the same area and constraints, why are the totals different?

You are counting different characteristics about the same group of crashes. One crash can have multiple casualties and often more than one unit involved. Each unit involved can have one or more circumstances that apply. For example in 10 crashes, there maybe 12 casualties, 15 units and 18 circumstances. Hence the totals are usually going to be different every time.

I have selected the severity of the crash along with the count of people killed/injured and the result seems quite excessive. What have I done?

It is quite likely you chose to perform a Count ? Casualty report and requested Crash ? Severity as your primary data. Always ensure you choose Casualty ? Severity as your primary data when performing a Count ? Casualty report.

I am having some major problems getting the mapping system working in WebCrash. What is causing this?

Most problems with mapping in WebCrash result from users not having an up-to-date version of Adobe SVG Viewer installed. For more information, visit our software page.

I have just created a report for the Christmas report period and the figures are definitely incorrect. Have I found a data error?

Because the Christmas reporting period extends from December of one year to January of the next, you can run into problems when you split the figures up into years.

If you report statistics about Christmas periods by year, the results will heap together the crashes from the start and the end of each year. So, for example, the results would group January and December 2002 together under '2002' - not December 2002 and January 2003 as you might have wanted.

The solution would be to group the results by financial year. This would give you Christmas periods broken up in the format December 1999/January 2000, December 2000/January 2001, and so on, which will probably be more useful.

Reports

The last report I just produced is not showing up when I click on the Download PDF File button. My first report still being shown, why?

It is very important to ensure that correct Internet Explorer options are set when using WebCrash. In the Tools menu, choose Internet Options. Under the General tab, the middle section called Temporary Internet Files, has a Settings button. After clicking the button the settings dialog box will appear. Ensure that ?Every visit to the page? is selected.

I found an old report I produced awhile ago, can I recreate it?

If you look under the 'Downloads' tab at the top of WebCrash, you will see a list of your most recent downloads. Your old report may still be available there.

If it isn't there, you can look at the constraints outlined in the top of page two of the report and recreate it that way. Due to continual updating, however, the results may not be identical.

It is best practice to save a report you have produced locally so you can refer to it any time in the future.

I get an error that says, ?You do not have permission for geographic constraint ?All of Queensland? for creating "Crash Details Report?. I can not find a problem with anything I have done.

We have intentionally restricted the use of detail reports for "All of Queensland" to try and keep file sizes and network traffic down. Now whilst your particular file size may be small, if we allowed this feature, reports could include thousands of crashes and thousands of pages of output which is simply not practical.

I want to list my data by each separate police region, do I have to choose them all in the geographic constraint?

No. The way the report is displayed is controlled entirely by the report type, primary data and control breaks at the right hand side. In this case simply select police region as one of the control breaks and choose Queensland in the geographic constraint.
